 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The recent entries over on Peakbagger.com are accurate - you park in the small lot (it's plowed) just S of the bridge over the Connecticut River across from Colebrook. Room for 3 vehicles. Then walk down the road about 50 yards to the south entrance of the driveway of the prominent white house across from the parking area. Turn right onto that driveway - the snowshoe track should be discernible there along the line of the woods, and the Peakbagger entries indicate the owner is fine with access (I didn't see him). Don't try parking near the quarry like older reports used to do. |

Trail is a snowshoe track in great shape. Just one big blowdown high up, easily crawled under or climbed over. |

Stellar day up a lesser-traveled mountain - albeit one that seems to get plenty of local traffic. It's been several days since the last storm, and plenty enough people have already stomped out a very nice snowshoe track. You'll want the shoes still - snow is still pretty deep and soft off the track. Though the melt and freeze over the next few days will likely begin compacting things.
Monadnock is actually a very good pick if you want a straightforward snow climb with a reliable track to follow. The views from the tower are certainly unique, as you're looking at the backside of almost all the big peaks. Thanks to the landowner for allowing access over his property! |
