Warren VT has lots of bare ground! This entire trail was snow and ice free. A little mud here and there, it won't suck you in if you step in it. The Vista Trail toward the top was more scrambley than I was expecting but worth it once I got to the viewpoint. I love seeing my vehicle at the trailhead from up above! Mt Ellen spent Sunday in the clouds but the rest of the view was lovely.
I posted this in case you are like me and your partner wants to do some skiing at Sugarbush and wants you to go along for the long long ride but you don't ski. I didn't know what to expect for general ground conditions up there until I found a webcam for the Warren Store (thank you!). The ride from the Sugarbush parking lot to the trailhead was about 3 miles and took 8 minutes one way. The ride on Inferno and West Hill Rd was exciting even without snow and ice. It looks like the lower snowshoe trails at Sugarbush are pretty bare too if you don't want to leave the ski area. |
