Comments
Comments: First time at Groton state park, and was pleasantly surprised. May get more visitors in the summer, but today I had most of the park to myself. Trails pretty gradual and easy to follow. Some water on trails, but mostly avoidable. Views from Big Deer are great. Luckily, the only others I saw at the park let me know about an east facing look out ledge, and what great views. All Presies, Franconia Ridge and most peaks in between, plus Kinsmans, and Moosilauke were visible today. Hike along pond was really nice, spotted several blue herons and a water thrush. Early wildflowers are starting to make an appearance (dog tooth violets, trilliums, and yellow violets); mostly along trails along the south side of the pond.
