Great hike in the Cow Mountain Pond Forest. A plaque on a boulder along the Cow Mountain Pond Road near the start of the hike give info about the preserve. Looks like a lot of effort went into developing the well blazed trail system. Trail maps and signage can be found at every intersection and there are multiple viewing spurs off the main trails. It was a gradual ascent to Cow Mountain, then I followed the longer loop trail back to the TH. Overall, this was a nice walk past multiple ponds with woodland and field settings. Evidence of beaver, moose and bear activity along the trails, but didn't see any. Spotted lots of wildflowers, including a few lady slippers ready to bloom. Due to the recent rains, the trails were pretty wet and a bit muddy today. And, the low cloud cover limited my ability to see if there are any views from the vista points. |
