Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Mt. Pisgah, VT
Trails
Trails: South Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, June 15, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked on the west side of US-5, and there was more than adequate space on a Sunday afternoon.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail, Mud - Minor/Avoidable
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: No issues - there is a sturdy bridge over the pond near the trailhead, and only a couple of trivial water crossings along the way.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The trail seems to be very well-maintained and is clearly marked, but it has been widened in many spots by hikers trying to avoid obstacles or mud.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This trail should be no problem for dogs. There is only one rock scramble, at South Overlook near the summit, and most dogs should be able to manage it with a little help.
Bugs
Bugs: Some blackflies, but not too bad.

Comments
Comments: The trail is unrelentingly steep but the views from South and West Overlooks made it worth it. I didn't go as far as North Overlook. Be aware that cell service is unreliable - and likely comes from Canada, if it's available at all. There is no signal at all at parking.
