Comments
Comments: Decided to explore Bolton Valley ski area hiking trails. The ski area has a set aside a number of routes specifically for hiking. The two I took were both on main access roads. The signage wasn't perfectly clear for hikers but just stay on the main access roads for these two peaks. First headed out to Timberline peak (a dog friendly trail) following the access road - goes up, down and then back up but only a few hundred feet of elevation to the top where the chairlift runs. Some decent views but staff later told me that the best views were from the mid station down the hill. I then backtracked to the main base lodge and headed up the access road to the main (Vista peak) about 1100 feet of gain. Again, nice views from the top of the chairlift but make sure and head to the lookout tower which give commanding 360 views above the trees. A short spur reaches the tower through the woods directly across from the chairlift (look for the yellow ski area boundary sign). Trails themselves are access roads with easy grades and some spots of loose rocks and gravel. The area is a mountain biking hot spot and mountain bike trails cross the hiking trails in numerous spots. These crossings are all signed and foot traffic is not allowed on any of the mountain bike trails with the exception of a few short stretches where the access road is shared by hikers and bikers. Saw dozens riding the lifts to the top to ride their bikes down (yes the bikes get a ride up the mountain as well!)
