Comments
Comments: lots of parking across from "the inn at longtrail". took sherburn path. at about 3100 feet or 2.1 miles, path comes out on ski trail. go uphill for about 100 yds and trail is marked and goes back into woods and heads for shelter which is at 2.5 miles.

just in back of shelter is pico trail which will bring you to summit after crossing a couple of ski trails.

on the way down, i took the right side ski trail and did some butt sliding until i got to the 3100 ft mark where i picked up trail again. the ski trail on the way down saved about .4 of a miles. trail to 3100 is nice and packed with 16 inch base. only needed slight traction. from ski trail to shelter had more powder and there were a few post holes. snowshoes suggested on this section and from shelter to summit. it would not be outrageous without the shoes, but you would be in and out of about 10 inches of snow. taking the short cut down the ski trail on way down does not require any snow shoes or traction. aprox miles 5.4. total time with lunch 4.05. nice day with some gust at top. after hike headed home east bound and about 1/2 mile away stopped at killington deli and market for a great green mt coffee. 13 flavors hot. i think i am in heaven.
