Comments
Comments: Finally no Canadian Wildfire Smoke to obscure the views! Took advantage to hike to a view! Beane trail starts as a woods road; running along the road is a section of plastic pipe which the farm is using to tap a spring about 1/4 up the road. Trail turns off the road at a clear marking. Grade from here to Birch Glen Camp is nice and gentle. Took a break at the camp before heading up the Long trail. NOTE: the water source for Birch Glen Camp was dry; the only water all day except at the road was a small seep about 1/3 mile up the Long trail from the Camp. Easy climb to start on the long trail then the trail levels out for a bit heading around Beane Mountain. It gets steeper beyond this point and includes a few minor scrambles right below Molly Stark's Balcony. Awesome views looking out directly at Camel's Hump and views over to the Worcester Range. Met only a few other hikers; a couple heading to the Camp and three others on the Long trail above the Camp. All in 5.6 Miles and 1600 feet of elevation gain. If you want a hike less crowded than most others in Vermont, this should definitely be on the list.
