Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: This is a non-scary trailhead to drive to. My Subie was fine but really any car could do this.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Dry Trail

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: I wish. LOL. There is a small drainage that was running about 1 mile up the Battell Trail. The stream that crosses the Long Trail above the Battell Shelter was completely dry. So was the “water” spur between Lincoln and Ellen. I was dubious about being able to find water on this route so I hauled a ridiculous amount of it; I am really glad that I did.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Everything looks fabulous with some recent saw work noted - thank you!
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This route has significant scrambles, which my pup lives for, and a whole lot of rocks and dirt. It was a great route for her!
Bugs
Bugs: Nope. Nada. Negative. None! Yay!

Comments
Comments: We hiked Abraham and Ellen out and back via the Battell Trail, which is a fabulous way to ascend to the Long Trail. It climbs steadily but has no scrambles. The Battell Shelter has a thermometer, which was neat to see; it was 42 degrees around 830am. I was glad that I had my winter pack and my winter layers - the people I saw on the Abraham summit were wearing puffies! “Shelter 2” is being built just uphill from shelter 1!
There were lots of people out on this route but all appeared to be day hikers. Although the dry conditions are a problem for water resupply, they did make the scrambles super grippy. 67/67!
