What a gorgeous day to be in the mountains! The trail was well packed down by snowshoers and previous hikers, though we didn't proceed past Mt. Abe's summit so I can't speak to what the rest of the ridge is like. We all wore microspikes for the entire hike and two of our three used poles; the microspikes were great for traction even on the steep section before the summit, and the poles were nice to have too -- although it was still completely doable without trekking poles, if you aren't as confident in your footing or have a bad knee etc they would be good to have! Someone had sledded down many parts of the trail near the summit which made footing in a few of the steeper sections harder, please help out future hikers and don't be that person. The summit was pleasant with low wind and 360-degree visibility as far as Mt. Washington! |
