Roads to the west of these peaks were gated, so I parked my bicycle at Boudle Rd, and drove north to another road/ snowmobile trail off East Branch where I parked and had a pleasant walk up to 2040’, where I started my whack towards Meacham South in great hardwoods with little undergrowth. After a small false summit the ferns got dense and I couldn’t see my feet for most of the next few miles, except for some darker spruce pencil wood sections. The jar is on the ground on the first peak but in ok shape. It was a long walk to the next peak on the ridge, slow going because of the ferns, but otherwise pleasant grades and open woods. It’s pretty featureless land so I had to just pay attention to the compass needle and avoid drifting down off the ridge but eventually I was heading up Bloomfield Ridge, where I signed in, then headed down to the N-S road at 1880’ which I jogged all the way back to my bike. It was 11.5 miles and 1700’ total including the 3 mile bike ride and took me 4:15. This hike was after doing Meacham Swamp main peak on its own, which I was able to drive much closer to. |
