Parking in a lot along Rte 125 in Middlebury Gap, room for 10+ cars. Sign marks trailhead for trail south, similar sign across the road for trail north. |

Above the Middlebury Snow Bowl Summit - the bog bridges above where you leave the upper chairlift station at the top of the ski area are in dire need of repair and replacement. At best they are loose and broken, at worst they have completely deteriorated. A half dozen blowdowns along the ridgeline above the snow bowl summit a mix of east step overs and duck unders. |

An easy canine hike though bring extra water as there was none along the trail today (except for the lake!). |

Out but not too bad, bug spray kept them at bay. |

A nice hike with some views and a quiet ridge walk. Long Trail South ascends moderately in the woods and crosses several ski trails. There are good views at the top of the Snow bowl and after a short walk in the woods from the upper chairlift station. From here it's a pleasant walk along the ridge in the woods with a number of up and downs before reach the summit; you cross into the wilderness area about a mile in from the top of the snow bowl. Only views are occasional obscured views through trees but the ridgeline is a quiet and peaceful place. Saw a few people heading to Lake Pleiad, above this junction only met one northbound hiker and a gentleman hanging out on the upper chairlift. If you're looking for a quiet hike, this one will do! |
