Surface Conditions

Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment:
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Crossing of Eddy Brook headwaters was easy, brook level was low and quickly stepped-over.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: The woods roads are in good shape and decently-cleared of vegetation along the sides. There are two cairns located at curves in the road headed up the steep out of the Eddy Brook drainage, not sure what they represent (possibly other herd paths). The herd path approaching Mendon Peak was also very clear of vegetation and easily-followed.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: This hike begins with a woods road that runs past a camp about half a mile in. Please keep dogs on a leach until you are past this camp.
Bugs
Bugs: Nothing to say.
Lost and Found
Lost and Found: Nothing to say.

Comments
Comments: Green Mountain Club hike of Mendon Peak. 4 hikers including myself. Started at Brewer's Corner on Wheelerville Road, followed the woods roads up the Eddy Brook drainage and the ascent of the northern slope of Mendon Peak. The turn-off to the herd path from the woods road is right before the rescue sled storage, directly at an old bucket dangling from a tree. The immediate beginning of the herd path is hard to distinguish, but eventually becomes very easy to follow. Herd path leads directly to the summit sign. Don't forget to check out the view before the summit - it's a beautiful vista south toward Shrewsbury and east toward Killington.
