Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Stratton-Arlington Road was washed out in a big way between Stratton village and West Wardsboro. Has been repaired patchily. Summit caretakers told me the road is still out between the A.T. trailhead and Arlington, so this way to and from Rt. 7 is not available. Per the caretakers, it's indeterminate how long in coming will be repair and restoration of this route.

Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There were some significant blow-downs along the way, with hikers breaking fresh re-routes in places. Due for some cleaning - trail workers are out over the weekend. A sign at the east side of Stratton Pond says the north shore route to the tent site is still closed due to flooding because of beaver activity.

Bugs
Bugs: Bugs were out. No problem for me with black flies, but mosquitos were all over me in the evening at lower elevations - I didn't bring DEET. You probably should. Per the summit caretakers, so far this is an average bug season.

Comments
Comments: Mud season is over by a week at Stratton, per the summit caretakers. It was drier for me than was the Stratton hike I did 10/9/2010. Views were good but not A-level at summit, maybe 50 miles. Monadnock and Ascutney were somewhat faint. Couldn't see Moosilauke or any Whites, could faintly make out the wisps of some Adirondacks, no hint of Camel's Hump or Mansfield. Almost no wind at the summit, not even up on the tower - when I started at 2:20 pm, it was warm, verging on hot at the Stratton-Arlington intersection with F.S. 341. It was a gorgeous day. When at the summit, say hi to Jean and Hugh, the caretakers, who are very nice. I chatted with them and with a couple of fellow hikers, and they gave us yummy slices of apple pie. :)
